Carefully hand cut, carved, and tooled to highlight the texture and detail of real sand dollars, evoking the rhythmic shaping of tide and time. Accents of my naturally hand-tanned smoked deerskin (sourced from a locally gleaned white-tailed deer), add a soft contrast of buttery suede against the leather purse.
The purse has a zippered closure with adjustable straps braided out of foraged sedges and suede leather to mimic wind-swept sand dunes. The back of the purse shows the beautiful dove-like shaped teeth found inside a sand dollar.
More than an accessory, this purse is wearable sculpture - functional, yes, but also a poetic little expression of the natural world. This sand dollar shaped purse holds a bit of the shoreline, turning fleeting seaside moments into something lasting and tangible.
